Sonipat teen ‘gangrape’ victim ends life

The victim, in suicide note, has reportedly appealed to the judge that the accused should be awarded maximum punishment.

An alleged gangrape victim committed suicide in Haryana’s Sonipat district on Thursday. The 16-year-old was allegedly raped by two men of her village in September last year.

One of the accused, Sunil, was arrested soon after the incident and is lodged in Sonipat jail. The victim, a student of Class X, has left behind a suicide note in which she has cited “humiliation” as the reason for taking the extreme step. According to the police, her parents found her body hanging on the terrace of their home. The victim, in the suicide note, has reportedly appealed to the judge that the accused should be awarded maximum punishment under criminal law. The family said she was depressed after the incident.
