Maharashtra is ahead of Gujarat in development, Rahul Gandhi said today, dismissing claims by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders.

Rahul, who last week referred to Modi as “opposition leader”, made another slip when he referred to Prithviraj Chavan as ‘chief minister’. “Our CM is a man with a clean image,” he said.

“Maharashtra is ahead of Gujarat,” Rahul said at a poll rally here in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district. “They say we haven’t done any work in 60 years. Had that been the case, would the state have made the strides it has made?”

Attacking the prime minister, Rahul said, “Some people invoke Gandhiji’s name, but their behaviour is contradictory to his thoughts. We feel that there should be thought worship rather than idol worship. Some people speak of Gandhiji who taught non-violence but don’t practise his teachings.”

Rahul targeted the Modi government for a hike in prices of 108 medicines, including those for cancer. He also singled out Modi for “swinging on the jhoola with the Chinese President when Chinese soldiers had entered India”.

“It is people who make the country. It is not the leader but people who do the work,” he said. “Due to our policies, 30 lakh people will get jobs.” He also criticised the Modi government for not keeping its pre-poll promise to bring back black money stashed in foreign countries.

'Attacking the prime minister, Rahul said, “Some people invoke hiji’s name, but their behaviour is contradictory to his thoughts. We feel that there should be thought worship rather than idol worship. Some people speak of hiji who taught non-violence but don’t practise his teachings.” 'Ahem (clearing throat) young one, when is the last time you saw, let alone worked, with a hian? The answer is simple - there are no hians today in India - in any party!! Mahatma hi was NOT a politician, but a statesman; it will serve you well when you know, under and appreciate the difference. You may share the spelling of his last name, but you, my dear young one, do not share his ideals. What are ideals you ask? Wikipedia it. :-)

Mr. hi has conveniently forgotten that if the Mahatma's ideas has been truly followed, the Congress party would have ceased to exist in 1947. Talk of the pot calling the kettle black!
