A 30-year-old skating instructor was arrested on Sunday for the sexual assault of a six-year-old child at Vibgyor International School here.

Accused Mustafa alias Munna had been a prime suspect after police found child pornography videos downloaded from the internet on his laptop.

A six-year-old child was allegedly sexually assaulted during the school hours on July 2 according to a complaint filed on July 14.
The parents filed the complaint after their daughter complained of stomach ache and a doctor who was consulted stated that the child had been sexually assaulted.

Though the police narrowed down to two suspects — the skating instructor and a security guard  — efforts to find clinching evidence proved unfruitful.

Bangalore Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar told reporters that the skating instructor had been arrested on the basis of pornographic material found on his computer.

“The laptop contains incriminating pornographic videos — all of school children. This provided a window to the mind of the accused,’’ he said. The police, however, were unable to find any corroborative material — in the form of biological evidence.

With CCTV footage at the school not covering the gymnastics room where the alleged assault occurred and the child being unable to pinpoint the person who she said had assaulted her in a dark room, the police used circumstantial evidence to arrest the accused.

The accused Munna, a native of Bihar, had been living in Bangalore for over 20 years and was a skating instructor at the school for a couple of years.  He is a married man and the father of a child.

Analysis of the video footage revealed that the child was not present in her classroom for around 30 minutes on July 2 and this is suspected to be the time when she was assaulted.

According to one account, she was punished and sent to the gymnastics room while another version claimed that she excused herself to go to the toilet, but returned only 30 minutes later.

The accused has been booked under the IPC Section 376 for rape as well as under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. The police said probe would continue to ascertain if he was aided by anybody else.

The police said they also looked into the past record of the suspect to verify his antecedents. “We inquired with a former employer who pointed out that there was a particular case where Mustafa’s was caught exposing a minor to explicit videos. However, no complaint was made,’’ Auradkar added.
