Terming the attack on IAS officer and Director General of School Education K S Pannu as a deep-rooted conspiracy by vested interests, the Congress on Wednesday alleged Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka was involved in the incident.

“Since Pannu has termed the attack on him a deep-rooted conspiracy by vested interests, the whole episode needs to be thoroughly investigated by an independent agency. There is every possibility that some diehard supporters of the Maluka, who may have been a part of the stranded pilgrims, assaulted him to please their political boss. Indication to this effect gains ground as the person who took the video of the assault happens to be from Bathinda — the home district of Maluka,” state Congress spokesman Sukhpal Singh Khaira said.

He added: “According to Congress sources, two diehard Akali workers of Balianwali village — eight km from Rampura Phool — are instrumental in the attack on Pannu. There is every possibility that the Akali workers may have been instructed by Maluka to assault the DGSE for exposing the books scam. Let there be an independent probe to ascertain,if there was any deep rooted conspiracy and connection between the education minister and the attackers to settle scores with the DGSE,who known for his honesty and does not see eye to eye with the corrupt education minister.”

Taking a dig at Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal,Khaira said: “The Congress also urges the CM to honestly disclose to the people, whether he returned from London to secure the safe return of stranded pilgrims or did he come to Punjab to attend the first political rally of Gujarat Cheif Minister Narendra Modi on June 23 at Pathankot.”
