Moments after Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal announced a Rs 2,000-crore master plan on Tuesday to refurbish Amritsar city by 2016,BJP MP from the city,Navjot Singh Sidhu, termed the plan as a “lollypop”.

Terming the SAD-BJP government as “selfish”,Sidhu asked what his “elder brother” (Sukhbir) has given to the city for 2014. “The Lok Sabha elections are in 2014 not in 2016,” Sidhu told The Indian Express. Quoting a couplet,Sidhu added: “Matlab nikal gaya to pehchante nahin, yun ja rahen ho jaise jante nahin (They used me and now they don’t recognise me). I was taken to all SAD rallies to address the people and now they don’t even recognise me.”

Asked whether his assertions were emanating from the troubles within the BJP,the MP claimed his party has no role in it. “The state government has not been using the funds allocated for various projects in Amritsar… What was the government doing for the last seven years for the development of Amritsar? Even a Kumbakarna wakes up after six months. Why did this government wake up today after seven years and announced a master plan, and that too for 2016?” he asked.

While listing around 10 projects, including city bus service, solid waste management,Sidhu claimed: “None of these have seen the light of day because money is not being spent on them despite the funds lying in Amritsar. At least Rs 150 crore FDR is lying with Amritsar but nothing was given for development projects,” he added.
