The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar on Monday demanded registration of a case against PGI doctor Dr K Gauba and sought his immediate arrest for allegedly “showing disrespect” to Sikh religious articles like kar and keski “on the pretext of frisking students” before the start of a paramedical entrance examination, some days ago.

Makkar said Dr Gauba and the in-charge of the entrance test at a school in Sector 36,Chandigarh,where the incident allegedly took place should be booked for hurting the religious sentiments of Sikhs and for depriving students of their rights.

Stating that it was a deep-rooted conspiracy,Makkar alleged that Dr Gauba asked students to give it in writing that they were voluntarily removing the articles of Sikh faith. “I am going to take up the matter with the Punjab governor and the PGI director to seek the immediate arrest of Dr Gauba,” Makkar said.

“Chandigarh is capital of Punjab and such an incident is happening there. This is intolerable. We are fighting for the honour of Sikhs across the globe, but back here Sikhs are being subjected to such kind of humiliation.”

Despite repeated attempts,Dr Gauba was not available for comment.
