Central security forces will soon be moved again to Jammu and Kashmir for poll security during the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Informing this, official sources said that the security arrangements for 2009 Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir are being worked out jointly by the State’s Chief Electoral Officer and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The term of 14th Lok Sabha expires in May and the elections for the 15th Lok Sabha are likely to be held in April-May,this year.

Sources informed that as the Lok Sabha elections 2009 are approaching, the Jammu and Kashmir state office of the Election Commissioner of India is gearing up for holding elections for six Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.

Eventually, the ECI is also working out the security arrangements in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, sources informed.

The paramilitary forces from the Centre will again be called to Jammu and Kashmir for poll deployment to ensure successful conduct of elections for all the six Lok Sabha constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sources informed that after the Jammu and Kashmir Police works out the deployment of paramilitary troops for poll security with the ECI J&K,the Jammu and Kashmir government would send the requisition to the Central Government.

Paramilitary troops successfully conducted the Jammu and Kashmir state assembly elections recently in November-December,2008 and were called back to Centre, sources pointed out.

The Jammu and Kashmir government had sought 600 companies of the paramilitary forces, out of which the Central Government had sanctioned about 400 companies of the paramilitary forces for the poll security during the state assembly elections, spread into seven phases in two months, sources further pointed out.

Sources informed that the deployment of the paramilitary forces would remain the same as during the Jammu and Kashmir state assembly elections and the same number of companies would be deployed.

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda told the Express that “Although exact poll security deployment for the Lok Sabha elections is yet to be worked out, which is being done in coordination with the state elections of the ECI,however, deployment would be more or less the same as was for the recent state assembly elections.”

The requisition to the Centre would be sent soon after the deployment is worked out with the ECI,Khoda added.

The DGP said that “All necessary security measures would be put in place for the Lok Sabha elections as was done during the assembly elections.”
