A FORMER employee of a dentist in Nagpur was arrested for allegedly killing his eight-year-old son within hours of kidnapping him on Monday evening.
Rajesh Dawre, who worked as a receptionist at Mukesh Chandak’s clinic and was sacked for alleged “misconduct” a fortnight ago, kidnapped the child with the help of one Arvind Singh from the dentist’s residence. His accomplice has also been held.
According to the police, the duo took the child to a place called Patansawangi and killed him after Rajesh got a call from the police to present himself for questioning. The police said the child was strangulated and his head smashed with boulders before the body was buried near a river.
The duo had even made calls to the dentist for ransom after killing the child, they said. Rajesh, who later presented himself before the police, confessed to the crime.
Asked if the two could have been discreetly traced instead of being summoned over the phone, Joint Commissioner of Police Anup Kumar Singh said: “We had called all the employees of Chandak’s clinic for questioning. They were not the only ones.”
About the motive, the police official was, however, tightlipped. “It’s under investigations,” said Singh. However, the JCP did not rule out revenge or ransom as the motive.
