The Pune police that busted a high-profile sex racket on Wednesday continued with its raids and swooped down on as many as 28 hotels and lodges in the past two days. The police said they would continue with the raids to effectively curb the menace that seems to be spreading in Pimpri-Chinchwad and Hinjewadi areas.
Meanwhile, the Delhi girl rescued along with 12 others, after the sex racket was busted, has refused to return home with her brother and mother. The police now plan to rope in psychologists to counsel her.
It was after the Delhi family came searching for the girl in Pune that the police started raiding the hotels and busted the sex racket. The police found that well-educated girls were part of what has been described as a thriving sex racket in areas under Sangvi and Hinjewadi police stations. The 13 girls, along with 14 men including the pimps, hotel managers and owners, have been sent to police custody. Some of the girls told the police that they had rented flats in Sangvi area by telling the landlords that they were in Pune to study.
Refusing to go back home, the girl from Delhi has reportedly told the police that she wants to continue in the same profession as she could earn as much as Rs 7,000 per day. Deputy Commissioner of Police Shahaji Umap said: We were completely taken aback by her insistence on not returning home… She wants to continue doing this, which is also shocking…
However,he said, the police were not giving up yet. Umap said they would rope in psychologists to counsel the girl so that she can be rehabilitated.
The girl is young and does not understand the consequences of her actions. She might have got carried away due to the lure of big money or she may be having problems with her family. It is important to understand her mind. Therefore, she needs proper guidance and counselling so that she can start a new life, Umap said. After she gets bail, the police plan to put her through a counselling session.
