Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday joined the “Yuva Kerala Yatra” organised by the Youth Congress highlighting the themes of secularism and non-violent society. The yatra, led by Youth Congress state president Deen Kuriakose, was kicked off last month at Kasargode. Rahul, who reached Kochi airport at noon, moved to Nooranadu in Alappuzha district where the day’s leg of the yatra was being held. At 3.45 pm, he joined the yatra from behind and moved to the front greeting workers. Hundreds of party workers joined Rahul as he stopped at places to greet the crowd. However, he did not address the people. After walking for about 4 kms, Rahul moved on to the top of an SUV as the crowd went out of control. Union minister Vayalar Ravi, state home minister Ramesh Chennithala and scores of party leaders accompanied him during the yatra.
The party is also expected to appoint 15 parliamentary secretaries.
