Days after he stirred up a hornet’s nest during his two-day tour of Punjab by stating that seven out of 10 youths in state do drugs,Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi may visit the state again on October 19.

However,he will tour only Jalandhar district and will meet all the councillors of the municipal corporations, various nagar vouncils and the members of the zila parishads and panchayat samitis.

During his October 10-11 tour,Rahul was originally scheduled to visit Amritsar,Jalandhar and Patiala. However, the AICC later changed the programme scheduled and he went to Amritsar and Chandigarh only.

The councillors and other local leaders had not been able to meet him during his first visit, following which Rahul had assured them that he will visit the state soon.

The main objective of his proposed programme is to meet the elected members of all the local bodies to have a feel of the grassroots situation in Punjab and what common man thinks about the Congress party in present scenario,a party leader said.

It has been learnt that councillors from the entire state have been asked to reach Jalandhar on October 19 as the local leaders were asked to provide the list of their area’s councillors and sarpanchs, another leader added.

Sources in the party said that Rahul’s second visit to the state in just over a week is as an attempt to strengthen the party and boost the morale of the party workers after the debacle in the state Assembly elections earlier this year.
