BJP National Secretary Kirit Somaiya fired a fresh salvo at Public Works Department (PWD) minister Chhagan Bhujbal on Monday claiming several PWD officers and engineers received kickbacks in the form of flats in Hex World,a residential project of the Bhujbal family in Kharghar.

He said the anti-corruption bureau (ACP) should probe how so many PWD engineers owned flats in a single project being constructed by Bhujbal family owned firms Devisha and Pravesh Construction.

Somaiya also tried to drag former CM Ashok Chavan in the controversy and claimed permission for the project was granted during his tenure.

“The project worth Rs 500 crore is an example of minister-bureaucrat-contractor nexus. ACB should investigate if these officers having flats (in one society) is a coincidence or there is something fishy,” he said.

Somaiya also divulged names of present and former PWD engineers who had received the flats.

The sprawling 25-acre complex has over 9,000 flats and the market price of a 2 BHK is close to Rs 85 lakh.

Somaiya also alleged the land for the project was given to the Bhujbal family by contractors and builders as bribe.

“The land was given as a kickback and a bribe to the Bhujbal family for favours bestowed in PWD contracts,” he said.

Somaiya claimed despite submitting proof of alleged financial misdemeanors of the Bhujbal family ACB had failed to act.

“ACB has said it has completed a discreet inquiry. However, the state government is still not giving permission for an open inquiry.”

Somaiya said by not giving the go-ahead the Chief Minister was showing his complicity in the misappropriation.

Bhujbal family did not respond to calls. But the family and the PWD minister have earlier said they are open to investigation.
