Punjab produces chargesheet,High Court disposes of PIL

The Punjab government on Wednesday apprised the Punjab and Haryana High Court that a challan has been filed in the lower court regarding the alleged embezzlement of development funds in Attari,the constituency of former Punjab cabinet minister Gulzar Singh Ranike.

The Punjab government on Wednesday apprised the Punjab and Haryana High Court that a challan has been filed in the lower court regarding the alleged embezzlement of development funds in Attari,the constituency of former Punjab cabinet minister Gulzar Singh Ranike. Accepting the statement,the high court disposed of the case.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri and Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain was also informed that the case for framing of charges is due for hearing on March 4 and 8 in a lower court of Punjab.

Hari Singh of Dera Bassi had filed the petition seeking a CBI inquiry into huge embezzlement of grants in the departments of animal husbandry and welfare of scheduled caste and backward classes,the portfolios then held by Ranike.

During the resumed hearing,the Centre’s counsel Onkar Singh Batalvi informed the Court that the Centre has no doubts about the utilisation certificates submitted by the state regarding utilisation of funds.

Earlier,SP (Vigilance Bureau) Opinderjit Singh had informed the Court that FIR was registered against Ranike’s PA,Sarbhdyal Singh,on the basis of a preliminary inquiry. It was further highlighted that Sarbhdyal had allegedly embezzled the entire amount with his associates.
