The city continued to receive pre-monsoon showers on Thursday with the MET department recording 3.0 mm of rainfall. This was the second spell after April 15 and the MET department has forecast more rain on Friday.

“The entire state is receiving rainfall as was Karnataka yesterday. The MET department said these pre-monsoon showers are quite common in April and May,’’ said Sunita Devi, director weather central IMD,Pune.

The MET department has attributed the rainfall to a north-south wind discontinuity or trough running across the country that has brought in moisture from the ocean. This, and daytime solar heating creating convective clouds besides the rising afternoon heat was causing thundershower activity,’’ explains Devi of these pre-monsoon showers. Met department says rain will continue on .

With thundershowers being experienced in almost all parts of the country,it is usual to see these in the latter half of April. Last year, the city experienced thundershowers on April 25,while this year,it has come a week ahead.

“There would be more rain this year as compared to last year,” said MET officials.
