Prez gives away Stree Shakti award

President Pranab Mukherjee conferred the Stree Shakti Puraskar 2013 award on Vartika Nanda for her work in the field of women empowerment through journalism and mass communication, at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Sunday.

The award carries carries a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh and a citation.  A former journalist, Nanda is currently a permanent faculty member at Department of Journalism, Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University. She has done extensive work in creating awareness towards the issues of crime against women through media and literature.
