The stage is being set for another show of strength as political parties are gearing up for the Baisakhi Mela at Talwandi Sabo.

Even as devotees have started arriving here in large numbers to take a holy dip at Takht Damdama Sahib Gurdwara Sarovar, the cadres of the political parties were seen busy making last minute arrangements at their respective camps.

All eyes will be on the Congress camp where PCC president Partap Singh Bajwa will be addressing his first big rally in Malwa after taking charge of the state party unit. It will also be worth seeing whether the fissures in the Congress have been capped or widened as several senior party leaders like Jagmeet Brar,Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Capt Amarinder Singh are expected to reach the camp.

As for the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD),the camp will be as much a show of strength as a place for the protests. The Unemployed Linemen Association have already made plans to stage a protest at the SAD camp. The association members said they will not let any SAD speaker address the camp. They had staged a protest Thursday too when Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was in Bathinda to inaugurate a project. They had demanded from the power corporation to release the merit list by April 10,which was not done. Hence they will be obstructing the conference as they did during the Maghi Mela.

Even hardliners are expected to protest at the SAD camp following the rejection of mercy plea of Khalistani terrorist Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar by the Supreme Court.

Apart from SAD and Congress, even SAD (Amritsar) and Lok Jan Shakti party are also setting up camps here. However,Punjab People’s Party has stated that it will not be setting up any camp at the Baisakhi Mela.

Contacted,IG Bathinda range,Nirmaljeet Singh Dhillon said that foolproof arrangements have been made at the venue of the mela, which will continue for two days.
