Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday accused Pakistan of indulging in smuggling of drugs into Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir to destroy generations.

“Earlier,Pakistan tried to destroy the youth and generations in Punjab and Kashmir by the use of AK 47. When we countered that with the Centre, states and especially people of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir joining hands and even sacrificing their lives,Pakistan is now resorting to drug smuggling to destroy generations,” Azad said during a function at Amritsar Government Medical College after launching free drug and iron plus initiatives.

Urging the people to join hands to combat the drug menace induced by Pakistan with the same valour and determination as they had showed in combatting terrorism,he added: “They are destroying our youths to make money… Jammu and Kashmir is on the same page with Punjab.”

Earlier,Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, while putting the onus to check cross border smuggling from Pakistan on the Border Security Force (BSF),demanded that BSF should make more efforts to check the menace.

Azad laments poor sex ratio in Punjab

AMRITSAR: Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday lamented poor sex ratio in Punjab,Haryana,Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi. Speaking during a function at the Amritsar Government Medical College,Azad said: “We have no right to increase or decrease any particular gender’s numbers.” While congratulating Punjab for performing well to reduce infant and maternal mortality rates and total fertility rate,he said: “But the situation was alarming when it came to sex ratio.
