No safety on footpath for kids as reckless driver kills 1

A student of Class XI was crushed to death and another injured when a speeding Maruti Eeco van hit them in Sector-4,Gurgaon,on Tuesday morning.

A student of Class XI was crushed to death and another injured when a speeding Maruti Eeco van crashed into them in Sector-4,Gurgaon,on Tuesday morning.

The two students were on their way to school. Police said Preeti Nagi,a student of Senior Secondary Public School,died on the spot and Gaurav,a student of Government Model Senior Secondary School,received multiple injuries.

The two schools are located next to each other in Sector-4.

Eyewitnesses said Sanjeev Bakshi was driving the Ecco at a high speed and lost control of the vehicle at a sharp bend near Jeevan Jyoti School. The Eeco crashed into a Maruti Alto parked by the roadside and then climbed on to the footpath,on which the two students were walking.

Eyewitnesses told police that the children did not have the time to move out of the way of the vehicle and came under its wheels.

Preeti died on the way to Medanta Medicity Hospital and Gaurav has been discharged after initial treatment from Sheetala Hospital.

Police said Bakshi,an accountant with Bristol Hotel,did not try to flee the spot and has been arrested. He was not drunk at the time of the incident,police said. He was on way to Sector-7 at the time of the accident.

A case has been registered against Bakshi and he will be produced in court on Wednesday.

“We have lodged a case of negligent driving against the driver. We have also taken the car in our possession. He will be produced in court tomorrow,” said Sajjan Singh,SHO of Sector-5.
