No local holidays in state schools

The Punjab Government has decided to impose a total ban on local holidays in government schools to properly implement a provision in the Right To Education Act-2009,under which,schools have to compulsorily function for a minimum of 220 days.

The Punjab Government has decided to impose a total ban on local holidays in government schools to properly implement a provision in the Right To Education Act-2009,under which,schools have to compulsorily function for a minimum of 220 days.

According to an official spokesman,the government,that had allowed discretion to the schools for two local holidays has now been withdrawn as it was felt that there was no significance in giving local holidays at the school level. Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka has issued instructions for strictly imposing the ban. He said that necessary instruction in this regard have been issued to all concerned authorities.

In another vital decision,the Punjab government has decided to adopt a flexible policy for winter vacations in schools and to do away with fixed winter vacations,which were earlier observed from December 25 to December 31st. According to an official spokesman earlier the vacations were commenced in the last week of December but now the state government has decided to announce these vacations according to the weather conditions every year as there was no fixed time of intense cold and waves in the winter season.
