Youngsters of Deep Singh Wala of Faridkot have dared to put up a hoarding outside their village categorically banning entry of the area SAD MLA and liquor baron Deep Malhotra. The youngsters under the banner of Naujawan Bharat Sabha have stated that the MLA has opened a liquor vend in their village which is near a gurudwara, temple, middle school and a veterinary hospital. However, despite complaints to the authorities, the vend is not being shifted.

Lakhvir Singh from Naujawan Sabha said,“we had complained to police, administration and SAD leaders but nothing came of it. So this was our only way to protest.” Jagir Singh, another villager said,“we will gherao the MLA if he comes. Nor will we let him participate in any function here.”

Gurpreet Singh Kishanpura added,“in 2005-06 the number of vends were around 4,912 which increased to 12,188 in 2011-12. This shows that the state is promoting liquor consumption and is also preaching about drug menace as well.”

However, when contacted Rajesh Bhandari,Assistant excise and taxation commissioner,Faridkot, denied receiving any such complaint and said,“if someone has any issue regarding location of a vend, the concerned organisation can come to me and I will sort out the issue.”
