Navy should remain a superior force in Indian Ocean region: Manohar Parrikar

Parrikar paid a visit to India’s aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya and witnessed two days of TROPEX-2015.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Saturday said the Indian Navy must remain a superior force in the Indian Ocean Region and that the government will give all support to the Navy.

Parrikar, along with Minister of State Rao Inderjeet Singh, paid a visit to India’s aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya and witnessed two days of theatre readiness operational level exercise (TROPEX-2015) off the coast of Goa.

Earlier, PM Narendra Modi had visited the vessel immediately after the formation of the new government. Parrikar also released a postage stamp commemorating the indigenous naval communication satellite Rukmani.

The releasee which took place on board INS Vikramaditya was relayed live to naval units at sea, as well as to Maritime Operations Centres ashore.

The defence minister was accompanied by Navy Chief Admiral R K Dhowan.

Parrikar also witnessed a successful and impressive vertical launch of the Brahmos missile from the recently commissioned stealth destroyer INS Kolkata.
