Naveen’s mayoral choice loses

The BJD continued its winning spree by winning the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation on Thursday, but CM Naveen Patnaik’s choice for the Mayoral post failed to win from her ward. BJD bettered its 2008 tally from 40 to 49 in the 67-ward Corporation while Congress won only two seats.
The biggest surprise came in the loss of Linkan Subudhi, an engineer-turned-social activist, who was attacked last year while preventing marriage of a 15-year-old girl in Delhi. Subudhi, drafted to BJD just before the polls and tipped as Mayoral candidate, lost to BJD rebel Manorama Sahoo.
