Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s elevation in BJP and veteran leader LK Advani’s resignation from all party posts is likely to have a major impact on politics and saffron party’s future in Haryana.

Among those, who may feel the heat,is state BJP chief Ram Bilas Sharma, who was appointed with the blessings of senior BJP leader and Advani protege Sushma Swaraj. Now Modi supporters, till now relegated to the back seat, hope that the latest development will leave a far reaching impact on their future.

The development may decide the future of BJP’s alliance with Kuldeep Bishnoi led the HJC,especially in the wake of HJC letting its men contest the recent municipal elections against the saffron party and BJP top leaders’ growing proximity with INLD chief and former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala. Many senior BJP leaders, party president Rajnath Singh, took turns to visit Chautala, who is out on bail and is currently recuperating at a Gurgaon hospital after heart surgery.

Modi shares good relations with Chautala who was presented all three times former took oath as chief minister of Gujarat. Even last time, after the INLD had snapped ties with the BJP and both parties were at loggerheads,Modi had invited Chautala who travelled to Gujarat for the ceremony. Chautala leaves no opportunity to praise Modi for his administrative skills. Modi was the in-charge of Haryana affairs when the INLD-BJP alliance stormed to power in the state. The alliance had also won al the 10 Lok Sabha seats in state.

State BJP leaders admit that the change at the central level will certainly have its effect in the state. “This change will not only change the political future of the country but also affect the state-level politics,” said Gian Chand Gupta, senior BJP leader. Gupta was state president of Chandigarh unit of the BJP when Modi was in-charge.

Despite the dismal performance of the BJP in the municipal elections, the party is still divided over dumping the HJC for INLD.
