Tension gripped Piro town of Bhojpur, Bihar, after a 28-year-old Muslim youth was shot dead by unidentified assailants Wednesday afternoon.
After Akbar Khan, a shopkeeper, was killed at Piro, the police said they had to face resistance from local residents, who torched at least half a dozen shops in the town.
Though the reason of the killing is not yet ascertained, adequate police personnel have been deployed to help avoid any communal clash. The shops which have been targeted belong to Hindus.
“As there are chances of a backlash, we are not taking any chances,” said a senior police officer. Top police officers from Patna have reached the spot.
