Taking a swipe at both the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre and Barack Obama, a faction of the Jamiat ulama i Hind has said outsiders are giving unsolicited advice, in an apparent reference to the US President’s comments on religious intolerance during his visit to India in January,  ecause those in power have failed to abide by the Constitution of India.

“Today, the people in power are violating the basic tenets of the Constitution of India with impunity, which is why people from outside the country are trying to educate us on its provisions. This is not the advice we need,” reads the statement issued by the faction, headed by former Rajya Sabha MP Maulana Mahmood Madani. These observations were made during a two-day convention at Ramlila Maidan that ended Saturday.

A resolution was adopted  which sought speedy passage of the Communal Violence Bill, reiterated demand for reservation for Muslims, demanded release of innocent Muslim youths languishing in jails, among others.
