The deteriorating law and order in the state of Punjab, has led to a growing number of women keeping licensed guns to protect themselves. The number of licenses for weapons in Punjab issued for women has crossed 1500 over the past couple of years.

Interestingly, women felt the most insecure in Bathinda, the home town of Chief Minister Punjab Parkash Singh Badal which has issued maximum licenses to women in the state followed by Patiala, the city of former Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh.

Sources in Bathinda administration said that due to increasing tension in Bathinda among the Sikhs and the dera followers, almost everyone were getting weapons. “I feel safe with the weapon at home as earlier I used to wait for my husband from the fields to return home before dusk to feel safe as we stay in a farmland on the outskirts of the city”,said Komalpreet Kaur, resident of Patiala.
