Justices Arun Mishra, Adarsh Kumar Goel and Rohington F Nariman assumed charge as SC judges Monday. They were administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of India R M Lodha. Mishra, 59, and Goel, 61, held the post of Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court and the Orissa High Court, respectively, while Nariman, 58, has been elevated from the bar.
Justice Mishra was appointed as Additional Judge in the MP High Court on October 25, 1999 and was made a Permanent Judge on October 24, 2001. He was appointed Chief Justice of the Rajasthan HC on November 26, 2010 and was transferred to the Calcutta High Court as Chief Justice on December 14, 2012.
Justice Goel was designa-ted senior advocate by the SC in 1999. Two years later he was appointed a judge of Punjab and Haryana HC. He was transferred to Orissa HC as CJ last year. Son of eminent jurist Fali S Nariman Justice Nariman is the fifth lawyer to be elevated as a SC judge and will have a term of about seven years.
