Two youths, including a minor, have been arrested for allegedly raping a 16-year-old Dalit girl, who later became pregnant, in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district.
The girl’s mother, who filed a police complaint on Saturday after aborting the pregnancy, said the alleged incident took place on January 10 and that the victim did not inform her about this.
According to SHO, Danhaur police station, Subhash Chandra Sharma, the victim’s mother claimed that on January 10 her daughter was alone at the house in Mainpuri as she was visiting her parents in Etah. The girl had gone to fetch water from a handpump outside the house when Saleem, 19 and a 17-year-old boy forcibly took her to a nearby deserted room and raped her at gunpoint.
The accused had threatened to kill the girl if she or her family report the crime to the police, the complainant said.
The SHO said that on June 16, the girl complained of severe pain in her stomach and her mother took her to a doctor who confirmed pregnancy. When inquired, the girl narrated the January incident to her mother, who later took her to Etah where the pregnancy was aborted.
The victim’s mother met the parents of the both the accused who threatened her and denied any wrongdoing by the two boys. They reportedly offered her money to settle the matter, but the victim’s mother did not budge.
The SHO said the two accused were arrested Sunday after girl’s statement was recorded by the police.
