Manpreet demands Maluka’s resignation,to protest on May 23

Blaming Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka for Thursday’s Adampur violence where a PPP leader had died,PPP president Manpreet Singh Badal on Friday demanded his resignation.

While inviting all parties to join a protest on May 23 in Bathinda in this connection,Manpreet said PPP will also submit a memorandum to Governor on May 20 seeking Maluka’s resignation. “The memorandum will seek clear answers from the police as who these attackers were,How can so many armed assailants,equipped with so many dangerous weapons,come and vanish without the support of authorities?” asked Manpreet.

He added: “To lodge our protest against the ruling alliance,we will stage a massive protest rally on May 23 in Bathinda. I am inviting all political parties,NGOs and individuals to lodge their protest so that the state state government gets a wake up call.”

Meanwhile,PPP leader Jaspreet Singh Jassa,who died in Thursday’s violence,was cremated on Friday.

On Thursday,the police had denied that political rivalry was behind the attack. It had registered an FIR under sections 302,307,382,148 and 149 of the IPC against Adampur village resident Jagsir Singh Seera 15 unidentified persons on the statement of Balbir Singh,an eyewitnesses.

Malkiat Singh,Congress candidate from Bhai Rupa zone in Rampura Phul constituency,whose son was also injured in the attack,went on with his campaign on Friday. “Whatever is the outcome of the election,I will not run away. I want to tell the opponents that our party is not afraid of acts where unarmed people are attacked by an army of armed persons,” he said.
