Unable to come to terms with the birth of his third daughter in a row, a man smashed his three-day-old infant to death in front his wife at her father’s home in Jamnya village of Khandwa district Tuesday.

Bhuribai, 25, watched in horror as her husband Ravishankar, 30, smashed their daughter’s head on the cemented floor killing her instantly. “After a verbal fight with his wife he snatched the infant from her and killed her on the spot,’’ Sub-Inspector Chouhan of Piplod police station who visited the family said.

Ravishankar, who owns a small plot of agriculture land in Barad village, had come to Jamnya with Bhuribai on Saturday. Assisted by a local midwife, Bhuribai delivered her third child the same day. Her two other daughters are aged three and one.

Santosh, the son of the village Kotwar, said the alleged killer ran away with his eldest daughter when he realized what he had done. A police team did not find him in his home in Barad, not far from Jamnya village. The infant was buried after autopsy.

Meanwhile, in another incident at Indore a woman alleged that her in-laws fed her 15-month-old daughter liquor saying she had produced garbage.

An Indore court asked the police to register a case on a complaint from Gayatri alias Sharda. The woman had reportedly approached the mahila police station which did not act on her written complaint forcing her to move the district court.
