A Rohtak court today awarded life sentence to Sunil on charges of murdering his wife Alka, who died in front of the office of Inspector General of Police in May,2009 while seeking justice.

Alka and Sunil both had allegedly consumed poison in protest against the police inaction on a complaint,in which Alka had alleged that four persons had gangraped her. While Alka died,Sunil survived the suicide attempt. Initially he was booked on charges of attempt to commit suicide.

Later,on the complaint lodged by Alka’s father,Sunil was booked on charges of poisoning his wife and killing her. He was convicted by the Rohtak court today.

The case dates back to May 6,2009 when Alka and Sunil reached the office of then IGP (Rohtak range) V Kamaraja and consumed poison in protest against police inaction on Alka’s complaint levelling rape charges against four persons.

Reacting on the court’s verdict,Sunil’s sister and other family members have cried foul and told the mediapersons that will move the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the Rohtak court’s order.

“The police,in an attempt to save their skin, implicated my brother on charges of murdering his wife. The investigating officers did not even present Alka’s suicide note in the court, because of which Sunil got convicted on charges of murdering his wife,” said Sunil’s sister Sheela.

Sunil and Alka’s two teenage children have also been protesting against their father’s ‘false implication’ in the case.
