Manohar Singh died of a heart attack near Mukerian sub-division of Hoshiarpur on Wednesday morning. However, the 82-year-old man is yet to be cremated. The reason being his six sons, involved in property disputes, are all claiming rights to his body.

Following his death, two of Manohar’s sons had brought his body to Jalandhar. When the other four sons came to know about this, they lodged a complaint at police division six in Jalandhar police commissionerate, alleging that their father had been poisoned, leading to his death.

When the matter was brought to the notice of Mukerian SHO H S Cheema,he recalled the body for a postmortem examination. After the postmortem was completed, the two groups of brothers again claimed the body.

Following this,Cheema put the body in the mortuary of Mukerian Civil Hospital and directed the two groups to either resolve the matter themselves or get a declaration from a competent court.

When contacted,Cheema said: “I have written to the higher authorities to sort out the matter.”
