Man detained with 41 gold biscuits at Amritsar airport

The Customs officials in a joint operation with State Special Operation Cell of Punjab late Thursday detained a man after he tried to walk out of the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport,Amritsar,without declaring 41 gold biscuits,totalling 4.8 kg,that he had concealed on his person.

The Customs officials in a joint operation with State Special Operation Cell of Punjab late Thursday detained a man after he tried to walk out of the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport,Amritsar,without declaring 41 gold biscuits,totalling 4.8 kg,that he had concealed on his person. The man,identified as Raja Kumar,an Amritsar resident,based on his passport,had reached the city from Dubai in an Air India flight.

“The man had not declared the gold biscuits. Action has been initiated,” Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal,Assistant Commissioner (Customs) at Amritsar Airport,said.

Kumar,officials said,had concealed some of the gold biscuits,each weighing 116 grams,in a specially made waist belt while he had stuck eight biscuits each to the soles of his feet using adhesive tape.

As per airport sources,the man told customs officials that he deals in garments and has business in Delhi. He said he worked as a courier bringing consignment from Dubai to the city. The man told investigators that he was a frequent flyer and held two passports,the other in the name of Rohit Arora.
