Though Congress is yet to announce its candidates for Lok Sabha elections,Punjab Mahila Congress on Tuesday demanded that it be given four seats to contest from.

State Mahila Congress president Dr Malti Thaper, who demanded a ticket from Ferozepur constituency for herself, said: “In the Vidhan Sabha elections,Mahila Congress was not given enough representation. So this time,we have put forth our request much before candidates are decided.”

“Santosh Chaudhary and Parneet Kaur are sitting women MPs from the state. We are demanding two more seats from where Congress has not won. I have done enough ground work in Ferozepur and hence,I deem myself fit to contest from there. I have also done work till booth level in Moga,Ludhiana,Jalandhar and so on,” she added.

“Recently,AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi had said that Mahila Congress workers have 50 per cent contribution in the party. Hence,we have the right to seek at least four seats,” Thaper said.

Sources said that party leader Jagmeet Brar was also active in Ferozepur and hence, could seek ticket from the constituency.
