LS polls: Cong to contest 26 seats,NCP 22

Congress and NCP have sealed the seat-sharing formula for 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Of the total 48 seats in Maharashtra,Congress will contest 26 seats,while and NCP will field candidates on 22 seats. The decision was conveyed to the NCP state unit by Union Minister for Heavy Industries Praful Patel.

State NCP chief Bhaskar Jadhav said: “At the moment,we have resolved the seat sharing. But the details related to exchange of seats will have to be worked out with the Congress.” NCP state working president Jitendra Awad said: “Decisions related to some seat swapping could be taken as the elections come closer. The top leadership will take the final decisions.” In 2009,the party won nine seats. “We would like to improve our tally in 2014,” said Jadhav.
