Turmoil over missing coal block allocation files and the recent hike in fuel prices led to three adjournments of the Lok Sabha today, with opposition members shouting slogans and trooping into the Well.
Uproarious scenes were repeatedly witnessed since the House for the day, with Trinamool Congress and Left members agitating against the hike in fuel and onion prices. Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj demanded that the Prime Minister should make a statement in the House over the missing files today itself as he will leave tomorrow for St Petersburg for the G-20 Summit.
“Today is the only day left for the Prime Minister to speak. The Parliamentary Affairs had assured us that the Coal Minister will reply and PM will intervene. The promise should be fulfilled today,” she said. BJP members were on their feet shouting “PM jawab do” (PM reply) on the missing coal files issue,as members of the Left parties and the Trinamool Congress were in the Well raising slogans against fuel and onion price hike.
TDP leader Namo Nageshwar Rao was also in the Well trying to raise the issue of privilege notice given by him against Congress members Sandeep Dikshit and Madhu Yakshi Goud for allegedly threatening TDP members.
Speaker Meira Kumar informed the House that Rao’s privilege notice was under her consideration. She also said Congress member Ponnam Prabhakar’s privilege notice against some TDP members for using unparliamentary language was also under consideration. Amid din,Kumar adjourned the House till noon.
Similar uproarious scenes were witnessed again when the House reassembled with Left and TMC members walking into the Well and BJP members raising slogans on the same issues. Within minutes,M Thambidurai, who was in the Chair, adjourned the proceedings for 30 minutes. It was repeat of the unruly scenes when Lok Sabha met again, forcing him to adjourn the House till 2 PM.
