At least seven persons were killed after a landslide led to the collapse of three houses at Kathbangla locality in Dehradun. A woman pulled out of a damaged house is struggling for her life at Doon hospital.

In the past 48 hours, Uttarakhand has witnessed at least 21 casualties in incidents of landslides, cloudbursts and flash floods due to incessant rain. As per the Met department’s prediction, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places, especially in Nainital and Pithoragarh.

There were road blocks at various points on the Char Dham route. River Ganga, which had crossed the danger mark in Hardwar Friday, was receding on Saturday. The state administration is trying to restore road connectivity to Bairagarh in Pauri district’s Yamkeshwar tehsil. With the help of two helicopters, the administration lifted at least 103 persons on Saturday. As many as 25 villagers, who were rescued from Bairagarh village, are staying at an ashram in Rishikesh. The villagers were stuck after flash floods hit the village on Friday.

At the site of the tragedy in Dehradun, the rescue team worked non-stop to break the pucca ceiling of the collapsed house. After pulling out five bodies, neighbours informed the rescue team that one Bahadur Chandola was still trapped under the debris. However, he died by the time rescuers reached him.
