THE CPI(M) state secretariat Saturday rejected Politburo member M A Baby’s demand to quit as a member of the state Assembly. Baby had lost the recent Lok Sabha polls from Kollam to RSP, which had tied up with the Congress-led UDF before the polls. The senior CPI(M) leader is the sitting MLA from Kundara, which comes under Kollam LS seat. Baby resigned because that he could not retain the edge in his own bastion.

Baby had told the media it was not right to continue as the legislator of Kundara, where he had lost to his rival candidate in the LS elections.  Secretariat members, however, said accepting his resignation would create an unnecessary precedent and the defeat should not be taken as a personal one. The issue will be discussed in the state committee meeting starting on Sunday.
