Jawan, cop killed in J&K encounter

Search operation was launched in the neighbouring villages to track down the militants.

An army jawan and a special police officer were killed in an encounter in Hardshura Sultanpora village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Tangmarg area. The militants, however, are believed to have escaped. Two Army men and a civilian were injured in the encounter.

Police said the condition of injured civilian is stable.

A defence spokesperson said that based on specific information, a joint operation was launched by the Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operation Group of the police. “The operation is still in progress,’’ he added.

However, police officials said that the militants, who were two to three in number, managed to break the cordon and escaped from the village.
