Jail video shows UP gangster Khan Mubaraq threatening police

With both the video and the photograph going viral, the Akhilesh Yadav government has ordered an inquiry even as the state prisons department denied having initiated any such action.

A video clip allegedly shot inside the Faizabad district jail in Uttar Pradesh in which Khan Mubaraq, brother of gangster Zafar Supari Khan, is seen threatening policemen and politicians with dire consequences if he is attacked, has surfaced raising a question mark on security lapses inside prisons in the state.

Also, a photograph was recently uploaded on the Facebook account of a murder convict, Sahil Waqar, with the Bijnore district jail building, where he is lodged, in the background.

Principal Secretary (Home) Debashish Panda told The Indian Express that an inquiry has been ordered into the authenticity of the video clip related to undertrial Khan Mubaraq. He said Faizabad Range DIG will be conducting the inquiry. However, Additional IG, Prisons, Dr Riyaz Akhtar, said, no such inquiry has been ordered.

The video shows Khan Mubaraq, who is lodged in Faizabad district jail since February, replying to questions regarding his criminal background and threats to his life. He is seen alleging that he has received death threats from a powerful SP MLA. In the clip, which has jail barrack in the background, he is seen threatening police and politicians that they will be in trouble if he is attacked.
