Flags of Pakistan and Islamic State (IS) were hoisted by youths outside the Jamia Masjid in old city area of Srinagar after the Friday prayers.
According to the eyewitness, youths started raising anti-India and pro-freedom slogans soon after the Friday prayers ended. They then hoisted Pakistani and IS flags leading to police lathicharge.
“We will take action against people involved in anti-national activities,” said Inspector General of Police (Kashmir) Javid Mujataba Geelani.
Meanwhile, chairman of Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani has asked people to organise protests against the the BJP-PDP government, whom he accused of “changing the demographic status of the state on the instructions of the RSS”.
“On the instructions of RSS, the coalition government is using all the tactics to change the demographic status of the Kashmir,” Geelani said.
“After the new government took over, the human right violations against the people have increased manifold,” Geelani added.
He also slammed the Mufti government for not releasing political prisoners before Eid and urged the people of the Valley to celebrate Eid with austerity “as many people are languishing in jails”. Geelani also asked people to organise protests after Eid prayers against the state government’s policies.
“The protest should be held for half an hour so that the world will get a message against the atrocities and illegal occupation of India,” he said.
