Inspector wanted for smuggling dismissed

The Punjab Armed Police (PAP) 9 Battalion Commandant Charanjit Singh on Tuesday dismissed assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Ranjit Singh in connection with his alleged role in the smuggling of 23 kilogram of heroin,worth Rs 115 crore,recovered from a Pakistani goods train on October 20.

The Punjab Armed Police (PAP) 9 Battalion Commandant Charanjit Singh on Tuesday dismissed assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Ranjit Singh in connection with his alleged role in the smuggling of 23 kilogram of heroin,worth Rs 115 crore,recovered from a Pakistani goods train on October 20.

The dismissal comes aftyer the media highlighted the alleged role of Ranjit Singh in the smuggling.

“Using powers under section 311 of Indian Constitution,I have dismissed ASI Ranjit Singh. Under the said sections,powers are bestowed to dismiss an employee without conducting any inquiry as there are all reasons to believe that his role has been established in the smuggling and DRI has also sent a communiqué detailing his involvement in the smuggling,” Charanjit Singh told The Indian Express.

Puran Singh,a porter nabbed by DRI in the case,had named ASI Ranjit Singh as the person for whom the “heroine consignment was meant.”
