The women wing of INLD and senior leaders of the party on Wednesday held a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi against the alleged spurt in crimes against women in Haryana during the tenure of the current Congress government.

The members also demanded that a judicial probe be ordered in the controversial MMS allegedly featuring veteran Congress leader Shamsher Singh Surjewala in an objectionable condition.

“INLD has been, from time to time, drawing the attention of the government of Haryana towards ever increasing crime against and exploitation of women by persons occupying high offices. On April 1,the INLD had also submitted a memorandum to the Governor demanding a judicial probe so that the guilty can be punished,” a leader said while addressing the gathering, which was also attended by Abhay Chautala and Ashok Arora.

Another leader added: “It is a matter of great concern that there has been a rise in such instances where Congressmen have allegedly misused their status to exploit young women on the promise of career enhancement or other falsehoods. Of greater concern is that a video clip of senior Congress leader from Haryana and a former minister Shri Shamsher Singh Surjewala has been recently viewed on the YouTube where he is shown in compromising position with a young woman.”

“This matter, regrettable and shameful as it is,becomes an extremely grave subject because it is not a solitary instance in the state involving senior public functionaries misusing power and authority to exploit women. For record,Shri Surjewala,is not only a former minister and a senior Congressman but also the president of the Congress All India Kisan Cell,” she added.
