Indigo plane catches fire on landing, none hurt

Preliminary inquiry state sparks occurred due to heavy braking during landing.

In Indigo plane from Delhi with 182 people on board caught fire Saturday while landing at Kathmandu airport but all passengers and crew escaped unhurt and were safely evacuated.

All passengers and crew were evacuated in 81 seconds using emergency doors after ground engineers observed fire from the right brake assembly of the Airbus 320, officials said, adding the fire was immediately brought under control. It was a two-year-old aircraft with no history of technical fault. The airline said its flight made a normal landing Saturday at Tribhuwan International airport.

Preliminary inquiry state  sparks occurred due to heavy braking during landing, leading to a hydraulic leak, DGCA sources said, though airline  ruled it out as cause of fire.
