Union HRD minister Smriti Irani.
Alleging political interference in higher and professional institutions, Congress leader and former union minister Girija Vyas said that HRD minister Smriti Irani was introducing fundamentalism in secular education of the country. She further alleged saffronisation of education by appointing RSS-linked persons in the top institutions in the country by the HRD minister.
Addressing mediapersons here on Sunday, Vyas said political interference was the reason behind India’s top nuclear scientist Anil Kakodkar and IIT-Delhi director Raghunath K.Shevgaonklar’s resignation.
Vyas said that National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) director Parveen Synclair was forced to resign from her job when she refused to shape the national curriculum framework (NCF) as per RSS directives. The Congress leader said that HRD minister tried to harass Delhi University vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh and forced him to quit so that she could appoint someone with RSS background as VC of this prestigious university. But it was a different matter that she failed in her aims.
Alleging bias in appointment to top institutions, Vyas said that incompetent persons with RSS links were being foisted on important posts. Substantiating the allegations, she said that former editor of “Panchjanya”, Baldev Sharma, was made National Book Trust chairman and Vishram Sharma having RSS connections appointed as chairman of the Nagpur-based Vishwesraiya Institute of Technology.
She said how an unknown academician Y. Sudarshan Rao having close links with RSS had been appointed chairman of the well-known Indian Council for Historical Research (ICHR) for rewriting Indian history from RSS point of view.
