HP govt gets 6 CPS,1 cabinet berth still vacant

Six Congress MLAs,including Rohit Thakur — a two-time MLA from Jubbal-Kotkhai and grandson of former chief minister Thakur Ram Lal — were inducted as chief parliamentary secretaries (CPS) on Monday by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh,who said a lone vacancy in his cabinet will be filled up at an appropriate time.

Virbhadra administered oath of office and secrecy to all the new CPS at a ceremony held at the state Secretariat. With this,the total number of CPS in the Virbhadra ministry has risen to nine.

“There is no more scope for appointing a CPS. But vacancy in the cabinet will be filled up at an appropriate time,” he told mediapersons after the ceremony. The cabinet currently has 11 ministers.

Besides Thakur,the CPS were Jagjivan Pal (two-time MLA from Sulah),Rakesh Kalia (three-time MLA from Una),Nand Lal (second-time MLA from Rampur),Sohan Lal (two-time MLA from Sundernagar in Mandi) and Inder Dutt Lakhanpal (first-time MLA from Badsar in Hamirpur).

Later in the evening,Virbhadra also allocated work to the new CPS.
