As the Himachal unit of the BJP gets ready to chose its new executive, unit the party president, Satpal Satti, has given hints that at least 25 per cent of the new body will comprise of new faces who may help finalise party strategy for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and counter Congresss bid to cement its foothold in the state after having returned to power.
Party insiders informed that Satti has already held discussions with the state leaders, including former Chief Minister Shanta Kumar and Leader of Opposition Prem Kumar Dhumal,to induct new faces and retain some of the seniors holding positions as vice-presidents or members of the party executive. Consultations have also been held with central leaders including J P Nadda.
Satti has been given second term by the party as he got less than an years time after having replaced earlier state BJP chief Khimi Ram – who later was inducted as cabinet minister.
The new team will be announced within two or three days. It is going to be a right mix of veterans and young faces with a focus mainly on gearing up the party machinery for the Lok Sabha polls. We have already analysed the factors, which led to the BJPs defeat in the Assembly polls. Lots of correctional measures have already been taken or proposed to be taken to ensure that BJP wins all the four Lok Sabha seats – gain one more seat,Mandi, won by Virbhadra Singh in 2009, Satti told the Indian Express.
Apart from three general secretaries, there will be eight vice-presidents and eight secretaries, beside six heads of frontal organisations in the new team. The only new feature will be representation to five newly carved organisational districts of Nurpur,Palampur,Dehra,Mahasu and Sundernagar. The partys constitution provides for inducting at least 25 percent new faces .
We are preparing to call a meeting of the new executive and also a general house after the current session of the Assembly is over. The Lok Sabha elections can happen anytime during the year. The party has been told by the high command to remain fully prepared for the polls, he said.
The party, during past one year has undergone a serious crisis with a split resulting in formation of a new party – Himachal Lokhit Party (HLP) by former MP Maheshwar Singh - and revolt in Kangra. Rajan Sushant, the sitting Lok Sabha member from Kangra, was suspended from the membership of the Parliamentary party and some sitting ministers of Dhumal government remained defiant to settle their scores with their own fellow ministers from the area. The party suffered big reversals in the Assembly polls due to annoyance of Shanta Kumar against state leadership.
Sushants fate still hangs in a balance and if he doesnt return to the BJP fold, the party may suffer in the Lok Sabha polls. There are challenges in Shimla,Mandi and also on Hamirpur seats a task Satti has to handle with care and caution.
