Two days after the Punjab and Haryana High Court reserved its order in a case demanding a CBI probe into the alleged fake encounters by Punjab Police, applications by family members of the deceased — requesting that they be impleaded as respondents — came up for hearing on Thursday.

Though the applications were filed last week they could not be taken up for hearing due to some procedural glitch. Seven people, relatives of those who were allegedly killed in fake encounters, requested the high court that they be impleaded as respondents in the case. The relatives also demanded that the state be directed to pay them compensation.

Four of the petitioners claimed they witnessed the abduction of their relatives by police. The court refused to entertain their applications since the Court has already reserved its orders on the petition.
