Expressing concern at the reported decline in learning levels at schools in the state,Narinder Parmar — a Himachal-born International Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) expert — has offered to help the state government initiate effective steps to improve standards of learning, primarily at the elementary level.

Currently in Shimla to conduct a special NLP workshop- ‘Get Results’ – Parmar said Himachal Pradesh, which has enviable success in social parameters, could achieve marvelous results from programmes like NLP. “I have not interacted with education department officials to know the reasons for the decline but I find it’s more to do with teachers and their training. Once the teachers have undergone specialised training and develop the necessary skills or are made accountable to the job with well-defined goals, things will start changing for the benefit of students,” Parmar said.

Queried on whether he would offer his NLP expertise to draw-up an action plan for introducing effective corrective measures in the Himachal Pradesh schools,Parmar said: “Why not? After all,I belong to Himachal Pradesh. I will be happy to contribute to the state’s drive to impart quality education and see that this decline in the levels of learning is arrested. Let’s tackle the issue at the teachers’ level and then contemplate on what we can do for the students. It’s not a difficult task.”

A powerful communication tool,NLP deals with issues relating to personal development and human excellence attempting to help one undergo personal change, self -evaluation and medium to improve skills. “We have been able to channelise the energy of youths in a very effective manner and thousands of students in countries like US,UK and Australia have benefited,” Parmar said on the sidelines of his ongoing workshop at Shimla’s Rotary Town Hall.

The NLP expert plans to set up a youth centre,Jagriti,at his village in Hamirpur, which he says will be fully functional by 2017.
