The Indian Coast Guard (North West) commander, Inspector General Kuldip Singh Sheoran, was transferred to Port Blair on Wednesday. He has been replaced by Raj Mani Sharma.

The sinking of a Pakistani fishing boat off the Gujarat coast on December 31 last year happened while Sheoran was in office. While the government claimed that the boat had been set on fire by its crew, then Chief of Staff, North West, DIG B K Loshali said on February 15, “…I told at night blow the boat off. We don’t want to serve them biryani”.

In April, the Coast Guard claimed to have seized a Pakistani boat with a heroin consignment. This incident too raised several questions, as the Coast Guard and the Navy reportedly gave contrary reports.
